LINEAGE
Sitarist Indrajit Banerjee was born in
1965 in a family of musicians. His family is unique due to the large
number of accomplished artists in Hindustani classical music. Some
of the members include Pt. Kartick Kumar (sitar), Niladri Kumar
(sitar), and Barun Pal (slide guitar). Indrajit inherited his
musical talent from his sitarist mother, who was a disciple of
Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. Indrajit's initial sitar training came from
his maternal grandfather Bankim Kumar Pal and later from Pt. Manilal
Nag. For the last fifteen years he has been under the tutelage of
his Guru and uncle, Pandit Kartick Kumar, senior disciple of Pandit
Ravi Shankar.
Indrajit, an artist of many dimensions, is also a Graduate of
Arts from the University of Calcutta and 'Sangeet Bibhakar' of
Bangiya Sangeet Parisad (affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University).
He has been invited for numerous teaching assignments in England and
Germany and his performances are featured on many audio Cassettes,
C.D.s, and Video recordings.
